Courses
Each course is designed to go beyond traditional tutoring, focusing on building a robust and lasting mathematical foundation for your child.
Foundational Skills
This course solidifies critical foundational skills students need in order to be proficient in math. It is ideal for children that are learning 4th and 5th grade mathematics standards. The course will begin by building a strong number sense, which is essential for understanding the place value system. This leads into helping students grasp the value of digits in larger numbers and decimals. Rather than memorizing, we will use strategies for recalling basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts to enhance fluency. Sessions on multiplication and division will emphasize conceptual understanding, allowing students to learn the "why" behind these operations for better problem-solving skills. Students will work towards multiplying and dividing 2 and 3-digit numbers. Additionally, we will explore area and volume through visual models and hands-on activities, fostering spatial reasoning and a tangible grasp of measurements.
Courses consist of six 60 minute sessions.
Fun With Fractions
Operations with fractions is a critical component of a strong mathematics foundations. It is ideal for children that are learning 4th and 5th grade mathematics standards. This course will begin by helping students form an understanding of what a fraction is, and the complexity of a fraction. Students will then begin to add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators. Finally, students will work with fraction multiplication and division. All of these concepts will be taught using hands-on materials and visual components. The focus will be to build an understanding, not memorizing steps to solve a problem.
Courses consist of seven 60 minute sessions.
